Kaiju Eye Tee - Original Monster Art

🎬 I love Godzilla, and my kid loves Godzilla...

and the Kaiju eye was inspired by years of watching Japanese monster movies together. There's something about those classic kaiju films - the amazing hand built sets created just to be smashed up, the fact that (in the Japanese originals anyway) the Monsters don't care about us, they don't have emotion, they are just relentlessly doing what they do, they are nature, they are nuclear destruction... and I love the the rubber suits, because they are about losing yourself in the idea, not perfection.... and that is very much how I go about my art, I make what I make for me, they are scrappy and rough because that's how I get ideas out of my head before I lose them, they aren't polished perfection, they are an idea.

🎨 I draw a lot of eyes... it's a thing I have apparently

This one came out particularly nicely, I think. I wear it a lot anyway. There's something about eyes, I don't really know what it is... maybe it's truth that you see there. This Kaiju eye captures that ancient, unemotional, relentless intelligence you see in the best monster movies. It's not just destruction - it's a creature with depth, presence, they have their own things going on, and they just aren't interested in the human animals. With my Aphantasia, I can't visualise what I'm going to draw, I just love drawing, and I rarely have a defined idea of what I'm going to draw, so eyes are always a good beginning, then I just see what emerges, and this one felt particularly alive like it was really looking at me, which is why it ended up here.

🖤 The ElRat Paradox

I am an artist who doesn't "love" visual art. I would never go to an art gallery, never look at an art book. I know nothing of other artists, or their work. Aphantasia means I have no visual memory, and it's hard to love something you can't remember. I *LOVE* drawing, it calms my head like nothing else, and I do like the pictures I make, but I can look back, even just a couple of days in my sketchbook, and have absolutely no memory of the picture there. I only really make art for the love of making it. They are intense, and scrappy because they have to be, I can't come back to a picture because as soon as I turn away, I forget it exists. So when I start, I have to finish before I lose concentration. Because for me, drawing is the point, not the pictures. If other people like it, I consider that an honour.
